IBL celebrates Sega Tipik and the richness of Mauritian cultural heritage.

13/03/2026

For Mauritius’ 58th Independence Day, IBL Group put one of the island’s most iconic cultural traditions in the spotlight: Sega Tipik. Employees at the Head Office were invited to experience this living art up close, celebrating both the island’s history and the richness of its heritage

The day began with a flag-raising ceremony, a powerful moment symbolising national unity and pride. This set the stage for an immersive cultural experience centred on Sega Tipik. Members of Asosiasion Pratikan Sega Tipik presented short films dedicated to this traditional art, performed live, and offered an introduction to playing the ravanne, giving employees the opportunity to explore and gain a deeper understanding of this cultural practice.

Since 2024, IBL has supported Asosiasion Pratikan Sega Tipik in its mission to preserve and promote Sega Tipik. This includes initiatives such as the publication of the book “Sega Tipik – Atravèr regar bann zenerasion” and the production of the documentary “Sega Tipik Sa”, both of which highlight the artists and custodians dedicated to passing this heritage on to future generations.

“At IBL, we believe that a society stays strong and open when it remains connected to its roots,” says Claire Coulier, Head of Communication at IBL. “Our traditions, music, and dances tell our story. They bring us together and give meaning to our independence. Sega Tipik holds a special place in that story, and it was a privilege to share this tradition with our colleagues while highlighting the exceptional work of Asosiasion Pratikan Sega Tipik.”

Marousia Bouvery, member of Abaim and treasurer of Asosiasion Pratikan Sega Tipik, adds: “Sega Tipik is a living art at the heart of our identity. Our mission is to preserve it and share it, so its richness and authenticity are fully appreciated. We were thrilled to introduce it to IBL’s employees and celebrate the artists who keep it alive.”

Through the celebration of Sega Tipik, the Group reaffirms its commitment to celebrating the richness and diversity of Mauritian cultural heritage, while enabling a wider audience to discover and appreciate these living traditions.
