Port Louis, 17 December 2025 – The Dodo Trail, one of Mauritius’ most iconic trail-running events, returns in 2026 for its 14th edition, taking place on 4 and 11 July. Organised by IBL Group, the event will once again bring together amateur and professional runners from Mauritius, the Indian Ocean region and overseas for a challenging sporting experience set against the stunning landscapes of the island’s south-west, from Le Morne to Tamarin. Registrations are now open on roag.org, where participants can also discover a range of exclusive event merchandise. Entries will close on Monday 1 June 2026.
The competition will kick off on Saturday 4 July with the Le Morne Dash, an uphill time trial inspired by the Vertical Kilometre format. Over a distance of 3.3 km with 500 metres of positive elevation gain, runners will tackle the steep slopes of Le Morne Brabant, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Now established as one of the highlights of the event, this short and intense format showcases both physical effort and the striking beauty of the location, offering a spectacular start to the Dodo Trail weekend.
The remaining races will take place on Saturday 11 July, featuring the races that have built the reputation of the Dodo Trail. The Xtreme 50 km, with 3,500 metres of elevation gain, represents a major challenge for the most experienced trail runners. The Squad 50 km, a relay version of the Xtreme race, is run by teams of four, with tailored sections for each runner, combining endurance with team spirit.
The Trooper 25 km, a highly technical course with 1,500 metres of elevation gain, features a succession of demanding climbs and fast descents. The Venture 10 km, shorter but still challenging, is distinguished by the ascent of La Tourelle de Tamarin, offering exceptional panoramic views. Finally, the Rookie 5 km, designed for beginners and younger runners, provides an accessible introduction to trail running through the Mauritian savannah.
The Dodo Trail is now recognised as a major event on the local and international trail-running scene, attracting runners from the Indian Ocean region, East Africa and beyond to test themselves on its challenging routes.
More than just a race, the Dodo Trail helps build connections between communities, while supporting IBL’s ambition to promote cultural, economic and professional exchanges across the Indian Ocean islands, and to showcase Mauritius’ role on the regional stage.
Rachel Odillard, Events Specialist at IBL Group and organiser of the Dodo Trail, highlighted that: “The Dodo Trail is built on values that matter deeply to us — perseverance, togetherness and performance. It brings people from all walks of life together, while respecting the natural environment. For IBL Group, the event goes far beyond a race. As a regional group based in Mauritius, we are proud to showcase the island’s unique beauty on the regional and international stage and to welcome runners from many different countries. The Dodo Trail also demonstrates Mauritian expertise in delivering large-scale events.”
Nicolas Quéland, Race Director, added: “The opening of registrations is always a special moment. It marks the beginning of a shared adventure with nearly 3,000 runners expected this year. We look forward to welcoming all participants next July.” For more information and to register: roag.org
